Pictorial Exhibition in Memory of the Centennial of Erich Paulun’s Death Held in Berlin

As part of important activities in the Sino-German Science and Education Year and Asia-Pacific Weeks Berlin, pictorial exhibition in memory of 100th anniversary of Erich Paulun’s death which is co-hosted by Tongji University and Hanover Confucius Institute, was held on Oct. 6th in the Berlin City Hall, which witnessed the opening ceremony in the evening of Oct. 10th.

Over 200 people attended the ceremony, including Prof. Wu Qidi, member of National People's Congress Standing Committee, Prof. Dong Qi, Vice President of Tongji, Dr. Husung, State Secretary of Education and Culture Bureau of Berlin Municipal Government, relatives of Mr. Paulum and some distinguished guests participating “Tongji Forum”. Prof. Pei Gang, President of Tongji University paid a special visit to the Exhibition and held a discussion with State Secretary Husung and the granddaughter of Mr. Paulun before the ceremony. At the opening ceremony, Prof. Wu Qidi and Prof. Dong Qi presented the portrait of Mr. Paulun and the bound volume of the Exhibition to the relatives of Mr. Paulun on behalf of Tongji University. Prof. Dong Qi, State Secretary Husung and the granddaughter of Mr. Paulum delivered speeches respectively.

The pictorial exhibition is composed of three parts, and they are “Erich Paulun and his family” which gives and introduction to his life, “Erich Paulun, Tongji Hospital and Tongji German Medical School” which presents the founding history of Tongji Hospital and Tongji German Medical School, and “Tongji University- a window of Sino-German communication” which introduces the history of Tongji University and the exchange programs with Germany and the achievements. The Exhibition won a good appraise among the Chinese and foreign audiences, who appreciated the outstanding contribution of Erich Paulun and the distinguished achievements and importance of Tongji University in the Chinese and German cultural exchange.

During the Exhibition, Mr. Wu Hongbo, Chinese Ambassador in Germany, came all the way to the Berlin City Hall and gave the high appraise. It is reported that the Exhibition will be held in the tour to Bonn, Wolfenbuttel, Hamburg, and so on.
