The event at the Embarcadero Marina Park was the first-ever outdoor IMAX screening. The new installment is believed to be freewheeling enough to entertain the casual moviegoer, but faithful enough to please a Comic-Con nerd.

While stationed at a sleek star base, an endangered female alien sends a distress call and reports that her ship's crew has been taken hostage. They decide to rescue her on a faraway planet, unaware they're being lured into a trap. The film opens in U.S. theatres on Friday, 22 July.
